ACM Curator Scot Keller will discuss the history of electric automobiles beginning with their early popularity.  In 1906, electric vehicles were considered the top-selling vehicle in the United States. However, as gasoline-powered vehicles became more affordable and easier to start in the early 20th century, sales for electric vehicles declined.  It was not until after WWII, when manufacturers and governments began to consider political and environmental concerns related to oil supplies, that electric vehicles were reconsidered as an alternative.  Today, growing infrastructure and supportive public policies have increased the demand for electric vehicles. In addition, battery technology continues to advance to increase power and driving range and decrease recharging time and cost.
