SUMMARY:Call for Cars: Summer Drive Series - Convertibles Submission Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Driving into the summer\, ACM will open an exhibit celebrating 1950s & 60’s convertibles in the Route 66 gallery. Displayed in the midst of the vintage petroliana and metal signs a gallery of eleven cars will have you imagining a great top-down road trip as you amble through the display. And if the exhibit inspires you to drive part of that trip on the old Route 66 there is information to help you plan the adventure. \nPrivate owners wishing to participate in the exhibit have an opportunity to nominate their cars for consideration by the ACM Curation staff. Ultimately\, eleven cars will be selected for the exhibit. To keep the exhibit fresh\, subsequent rotations will occur throughout the six-month lifespan of the exhibit. \nIf your car is chosen for the exhibit you will receive a one-year ACM membership with benefits including admission to see your vehicle on display at the Museum. \nTo have your convertible considered for display\, please send your name\, contact information with a short vehicle bio and current photographs to exhibits@americascarmuseum.org by March 1\, 2017. \nDon’t miss the chance to display your 50’s or 60’s convertible in America’s Car Museum’s exhibit\, Convertibles on Route 66 when it kicks off on April 21 during Drive The Blues Away.

DESCRIPTION:*This event takes place at the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend\, IN. \nSaturday\, November 12\, 2016 – 1 pm AND 3 pm \nDownton Abbey and vintage car fans alike can enjoy delving into “Driving Downton” at the Studebaker National Museum November 12 and 13.  Renée Crist\, Collections Manager of LeMay – America’s Car Museum\, will celebrate Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times exhibit currently on display at South Bend’s Natural History Museum by exploring the vehicles featured on the PBS hit television show Downton Abbey. \n“I’m starting at the beginning of the Downton period\, which is about the time the Titanic sank in 1912\, and going through the end of the series in 1925\,” said Crist. “It’s a wonderful period for the automobile both in Europe and America. The cars that appear throughout the series are almost like another set of characters.  Not only do they add to the atmosphere and the story of the people who rode in them and drove in them\, but they also help move the story along.” \nIf you’re a fan of the show\, a look at the cars will likely add an extra dimension you never knew was there. Crist will not only delve into individual cars in the show\, but also will explain how the cars mirror the class structure of the people. While the class structure ranges from the aristocracy down to the working class\, the cars range from the luxurious Rolls Royce to the car for everyone\, the Ford Model T.
