VEHICLES FOR LEARNING!
Saturday, November 14th, 2026 | 10 AM - 3PM
Discover innovative ways to bring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) to life in your classroom through the lens of the automobile. LeMay – America's Car Museum invites educators to participate in a special Full STEAM Ahead: Vehicles for Learning!
Educators from the Museum will provide engaging, hands-on workshops for both primary and secondary teachers, showcasing cross-curricular lessons that connect STEAM concepts to real-world applications. Participants will receive ready-to-use lesson plans, classroom resources, and supplemental materials to enhance student learning and engagement.
Registration includes lunch, cross-curricular lesson plans, parking, and admission to the museum. Participation in the program qualifies for 4 STEM clock hours.

Vehicles for Learning
Join us for this fun, hands-on professional development course designed to demonstrate how automotive history, art, and engineering can serve as powerful vehicles for learning in the classroom.
Bridging the Gap (Between Engineering and History)
Cross-Curricular Topics: Structural Engineering, Mathematics, and Local History
This session uses the history of the 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse to explore physics, structural load, and civil engineering. Educators will learn how to guide students through the engineering design process by building and testing small-scale bridges. This lesson can be scaled down for younger students to focus solely on the construction aspect of the project or scaled up for older students to include more complex physics concepts and budgeting/project management.
The Art of Industry
Cross-Curricular Topics: Automotive/Industrial Design, Proportion, and Introduction to Clay/Sculpting
This session explores the intersection between fine art and industrial engineering by exploring the history of car design/aesthetics and aerodynamics. Educators will study the Museum's collection to see examples of different designs and how vehicles have evolved over time, then participate in a hands-on workshop using either oil-based or air-dry clay to sculpt three-dimensional car models. Again, this lesson can accommodate younger students by focusing on the basic techniques associated with hand-built clay sculptures. For older students, the lesson can be expanded to include technical rendering, more complex building techniques, and digital 3D modeling.
