If Cars Could Talk – DeLorean: The Man and the Car

January 9, 2018 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free

John Zachary DeLorean (1925-2005) started his career as the head of research at Packard in the early 1950s, and by 1969, the handsome and brash executive seemed to be on his way to the top job at General Motors when he decided to do his own thing. In 1974, John DeLorean established the DeLorean Motor Car Co. in Northern Ireland and began plans for the now famous DMC12.

The DMC12 went into production at the end of 1980 but the roll out of the resulting gull-winged, stainless steel car was disappointing and the beginning of a series of misfortunes that ultimately led to the fall of both the DeLorean Motor Car Company and the man himself. Today the DMC12 exists primarily as an American icon, gaining movie stardom in the 1980s film Back to the Future. Join us as Museum Educator and Docent, Charles Smith, shares the story of John Zachary DeLorean and his motor car company.

There are many chapters to the story of the automobile. If cars could talk, they might just share stories we never imagined. Each month, our speaker will pick a car and offer a fascinating peek into its history. Join us the second Tuesday of each month, and explore the story of cars with Museum curators, staff, or local personalities over lunch.

Free, with Museum admission. Bring a lunch, or enjoy a meal from Classics by Pacific Grill.
