Summer camps at ACM are a great way to keep youth entertained and avoid the “summer slump” during the months while they’re out of school.
During the daily design challenge, campers build and decorate a variety of vehicles including a pinewood derby car, solar car, balloon-powered car, and an electric car. Through the design and decoration process, they learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). They apply these concepts again to other activities relating to the Museum’s exhibits and collection, of which they’ll receive an in-depth tour over the course of the week.
Every day, in addition to outdoors playtime, campers will also spend time in the Speed Zone where they build their skills on CXC Racing Simulators and a Pro-class Slot Car Track. This daily practice and team-building exercises is all in preparation for a team race on the last day of camp. Campers will also meet several local race car drivers who will coach them on their driving skills as wells as showcase their personal vehicles and equipment and explain what makes them fast and safe on a real track.
