Family STEAM Days – Renewable Energy Cars featuring Raisbeck Aviation High School’s Green Energy Team

April 15 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

The use of renewable forms of energy is a major focus for today’s engineers, especially within the automotive world. Wind power is one of the simplest and least expensive sources of renewable energy. Today we’ll be using craft supplies and recycled materials to design, build and race wind-powered model cars, as we explore how wind power may be utilized in real-world applications.

We’ll also be hosting members of the Raisbeck Aviation High School’s (RAHS) Green Energy Team (GET). RAHS is a STEM focused high school located in Tukwila, Washington, and the Green Energy Team’s central focus is learning and teaching engineering, green energy, and solar-based concepts. In the past several years, this focus has shifted toward designing and iterating a fully functional solar-powered car. In the three years of competition from 2019-2022, the Green Team’s solar cars have won three consecutive times in the National Solar Car Challenge. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the team and learn more about their exciting work on the future of renewable energy and automobiles!

Design, build, tinker and learn together as you explore the world of automobiles and its relation to science, technology, engineering, art and math on Family STEAM Day. On the third Saturday of each month, you and your child, grandchild, or family can spend quality time together exploring activities available in the Education Studio and Family Zone.

Family STEAM Days are free for ACM Members and is also included with Museum admission. Museum visitors age 18 and under receive FREE admission on Family STEAM Days.
